The Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) is a one year (36 weeks) full-time course of professional training accredited by the General Teaching Council for Scotland. The Secondary Teacher Education program is a state-approved program, accredited through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). In short, the life of a Secondary Education teacher is fun, challenging and always interesting.
Technical support and support supervision to Government owned and Government aided secondary schools provided. All students in Secondary Education are required to maintain a current account with College LiveText , the Web-based system that allows the systematic documentation of performance based assessment required for licensure.
A student in the Secondary Education Program will have two teaching areas to learn to teach. All students earning certification must successfully pass the Alabama Prospective Teacher Testing Program (APTTP). Most graduates of the polytechnical or general secondary schools are required to take jobs for two or three years, after which those qualified may proceed to higher education.
Undergraduate students in Secondary Education will have three field experiences. You will complete 80 days of teaching practice in a school guided by a qualified teacher and university supervisor. The International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED) (1997) describes seven levels that can be used to compare education internationally.
Faculty members in the secondary education program are nationally recognized scholars in their fields and have received national and state level teaching awards as secondary school educators and as college instructors. With the increasing secondary and middle school-age population and the impending retirement of many veteran teachers, the need for secondary and middle school teachers is greater than ever.
