An advisor in the education department will be assigned upon the student’s admission to a teacher education program, though the primary advisor resides in the major department. Since 1989 education has been seen as a basic human right for a child, article 28, of the Convention on the Rights of the Child states that: primary education should be free and compulsory while different forms of secondary education, including general and vocational education, should be available and accessible to every child.
Completion of the program is contingent upon achieving a 3.00 (ESEC majors) or 2.80 (secondary and P-12 majors) GPA in the area or areas of specialization, in the professional components, in the higher education GPA, and performing satisfactorily as a teacher during the professional semester.
